Vertical Harvest Urban Farm/City Parking Garage

A first of its kind! This is a unique reconfiguration of the city's largest public parking lot. Vertical harvest, an urban vegetable farm, will share the lot with a free public parking garage. In addition to tripling the available free public parking, residential apartments will provide much needed housing in the downtown area. This parking lot, located behind CVS on the corner of Mechanic Street, will be completely closed down by August 1 and relocated to Saccarappa Park (across from Edwards Block Building) to provide uninterrupted parking for downtown businesses and residents alike.

Westbrook Common Revitalization

Westbrook Common is a common area in need of complete rehabilitation. Construction has begun and entails demolition and a significant amount of underground utility work. Upon completion this space will be a welcoming and aesthetically attractive space where multiple events will be hosted in coordination with community sponsor, Northeast Credit Union. ADA compliant pedestrian accessibility will be available for all local businesses during significant construction.

Cumberland Mills Roadway Project

The summer of 2021 marks the beginning on the construction project near and around the roundabout in the Cumberland Mills section of Westbrook. There may some traffic delays and this project could last up to 2 years.

Saccarappa Park

The city is reconstructing this park as a temporary public parking space to be used during the construction of the Vertical Harvest Urban Farm project. This space will be intended for public parking use and not for construction activities. This lot will remain open until the new parking garage is constructed or additional downtown parking is made available to businesses and residents.

58 Lincoln St. Hand Carry Boat Launch

This unique public park along the Presumpscot River will be reconstructed in summer 2021 to provide safe and easy access to the Presumpscot River for canoes and kayaks, and also address erosion running off from the parking lot to the river. The projected disruption will involve the parking lot that serves both the rink and the boat launch, as well as the driveway down to the river. A significant amount of invasive species will also be removed by grazing goats, which will make for a very fun summer.

58 Lincoln St. Season Court and Rink

Currently under construction, this unique public park will include a four-season court and rink to provide a source of public recreation for many in Westbrook. In the winter, the rink will be flooded for skating, and in non-winter months, futsal tiles provide courts/lines for soccer, pickle ball, and other sports. After the completion of the court/rink is completed, the parking lot will remain under construction as part of the boat launch project, which will also bring goats to the river's edge to remove invasive species.

Cornelia Warren Outdoor Rec Complex

This existing, multipurpose outdoor rec complex is tired and in need of repairs. Working with a design team, the upcoming plans include making the parking lot more accessible with visibility improved. Both the Fraser and Warren fields will be improved in this construction process.
